Section for Sign Linguistics

The Section for Sign Linguistics (www.plm.uw.edu.pl) was first established within the organizational structure of the Faculty of Polish Studies, University of Warsaw, on 1 June 2010. The Section’s activities include a wide range of research work on the communication of Deaf people, most prominently the creation and linguistic analysis of the Polish Sign Language Corpus. The publications produced by members of the team include not only books and articles discussing various aspects of visual-spatial communication from a linguistic perspective, but also publications of an educational nature (e.g. textbooks used in teaching deaf students). Since 2019, researchers associated with the Section have been involved in teaching Poland’s first-ever master's degree program in sign language communication – Polish Sign Language Philology (www.fpjm.uw.edu.pl).
